The show was awarded two Molière awards in 2024: this Tuesday, "Dead Poets Society" will close Menton's cultural season

This is the final show of Menton's Cultural Season. And it promises to provide an exceptional evening for the Menton public. " Oh Captain, my Captain..." This timeless line from Tom Schulman's legendary film, Dead Poets Society - released in 1989 and winner of an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 1990 - still resonates in our memories.
For the first time in France, the Théâtre Antoine has adapted this timeless work, starring actor Stéphane Freiss in the role of the magnetic John Keating (Robin Williams in the cinema). This charismatic professor and innovative pedagogue inspires his young students, opening up to life, far from the strict rules of their prestigious establishment. A moving and contemporary story, the play celebrates friendship, emancipation, and transmission at a time when personalities and destinies are taking shape. A cry to life! Carpe Diem!
Human and timeless valuesNominated six times for the 2024 Molières , the play received the Molière for Best Director at the Théâtre privé, while Ethan Oliel received the Molière for Best Actor for his performance. The French adaptation is by Gérald Sibleyras.
Olivier Solivérès explains why he wanted to stage this film for the theater "which gave me the desire to read, to write, to create but above all to do theater, while, like one of the main characters, I came from a family that was not destined to go on stage." Transmission, the passion to follow one's dreams, freedom, imagination... So many values that we find in this work, which shows how "the teaching of a teacher and the reading of great texts can allow students to discover unsuspected horizons. And I hope, in addition to transmitting emotions to all generations, to be able to recall one of the principles of Professor Keating, the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise..."
